It's amazing what you can get done on a plane

Okay, so not blocked and the flower isn't sewn on in this picture - but it's done!

And these were finished on the weekend!

I had to buy some brown sock yarn for the toes (Cascade perhaps?) but they fit. And they are the largest socks I've ever knit yet. Nine inches long in the leg and nine inches long on the foot. Could it be Mr. Daisy's feet are still growing?

In the midst of my family visit to PA, I stopped into Wolf Creek Yarns for a sock yarn to finish the Classic Socks and found this lovely

"Copper Penny" colored sock yarn from Prism. A little too close to use for the Classic Socks but perfect for a shawlette . . .
Now, about that Swedish crochet hat . . .
Oh, and Happy Spring Break, Middle Daughter!

When this is all over

When this is over

and this is over

I am making this. I have it printed, translated (roughly) with an online translation and have my money poised to go shopping for the yarn. It's the crocheted hat from the Swedish olympic teams and Kim Werker over at Crochet Me found it. I want one enough to dust off the crochet skillz.

But AFTER the knitting olympics. Now, I'm packing my knitting and going out of town to see Middle Daughter at college. Let's hope she doesn't mind me taking my knitting everywhere!
See  you next week!

Snow and no swimming

Skiing on the lake - and then knitting.

Skiing on the trails - and then more knitting.

Watching the sledding (aka. bobsledding, luging, skeleton crewing) - card playing (we learned Dutch Blitz!) and more knitting.

The only thing that would have made this weekend better was if I had finished my socks (not yet) and if GFMelissa and Our Englunds were able to come. Ah, maybe next year . . .

Running out of town

This was a week of celebration at our house - the 100th day of school. Where is the 100th day of parenting celebration? The 100th day of knitting? Laundry? Darn it, I just want a party to call my own!

Even though we are getting ready to go out of town (skiing!), I made some sweet rolls to bribe the daughters who were staying home. Both of these trays were made at the same time and cooked at the same time. One was almost underdone and one was way overdone! Mysteries of modern cookery, I guess. Both were delicious, however!

It is crazy hard to photograph two socks done down to the heel turn. I'm hoping to finish this set by tomorrow - it will depend on how good the skiing is, I guess.
Have a lovely Knitting Olympics weekend!

Inching my way onto the Ravelryolympic stage

See that yellow stitch marker? That's how much knitting I've accomplished since the start of the Knitting Olympics. Yea. My first Ravelryolympic event is a WIPdancing - finishing up a Work In Progress (Mr. Daisy's Classic Sock).

We had a long standing movie date last night so I missed the whole evening. This morning,  dentist visits and housework. Argh. Darn that family life.

Today I did get to watch the whole Opening Ceremony (Tivo'd, of course) and maybe, just maybe, I can get another inch done tonight. Thank goodness for biathlon and ski jumping!

Finally!

I finished the Road not Taken Scarf.
I originally started this scarf back in December 2008. I didn't like the rolling edges so I ripped it out in early 2009 and restarted it as a garter stitch project (ie. no purling.) Then, I restarted it again and it languished behind my Knitting Chair until August 2009 when I pulled it out to bring along when we took Middle Daughter off to college.
Last week, I realized that if I decided to knit until I ran out of yarn, it would be miles long. So I'm saving the extra for some smaller project (maybe one of these?)
Now, who to give this scarf to?

Snow and swimming

I've been trying to up my swimming - moving from 2-3 days a week to almost every day - but I've discovered a key problem. In order to get to the warm pool, I have to walk through the cold snow.  I generally like snow (I even went skiing this afternoon!) but I am getting a little tired of it all. There - I said it. I want no more snow. I want birds singing, I want bike riding and I want open windows. Sigh.

In the meantime, I finally pulled the plug on the Way Not Taken scarf. With 500 yards of Kitty Sock Yarn in the skein from Unplanned Peacock Studio, I could easily have made it twice as long but since it was already measuring 72 inches long, I decided to bind off. It's currently blocking up on Oldest Daughter's bed.

Harder than it looked

I thought I would just dive into setting up my own My Sock Club. You know, stash dive and pair up a year's worth of sock yarn with 12 months of patterns. I think I heard about this from the Yarn Harlot and probably from Knittymama or Deb at Cashmere Dreams.

Man, this took longer than I imagined. Twelves stinkin' bags of patterns and yarns took all day. But, on the plus side, I finally learned how to use the scanner!

Here's the collection:
All Things Heather Hand Dyed Sock Yarn with the Absinthe Sock pattern
Cherry Tree Hill Supersock Merino with the Jaywalker pattern
Claudia Hand Painted Yarns Fingering  with the Herringbone Rib socks pattern.
Scout's Swag Como with the BFF Sock pattern.
Fleece Artist Basic Merino Socks with Jane's Hedgerow Socks.
Handmaiden Fine Yarn Sea Silk for use with the Fir Cone Wrap (not socks!)
Louet Gems Fingering Wt. for use with the Hourglass pattern.
Pagewood Farm Yukon Hand Dyed Sock Yarn/Bird of Paradise colorway for use with Widdershins sock pattern.
Pagewood Farm Yukon Hand Dyed Sock Yarn/Prism for use with Twilight socks.
Pagewood Farm Yukon Hand Dyed Sock Yarn/Vineyard Blues for use with Tangled Up in Blue sock pattern.
Cherry Tree Hill Supersock Merino for Mock Cable socks.
Twisted Sisters Avarice for use with the Ambrosia pattern.

All this decision making has exhausted me - it's time for bed!
