Vacation knitting

Rule #1 of knitting: If you knit a pair of socks, 

Basic Ribbed socks

someone will snap them up. Surprisingly, Youngest Child and I apparently share a sock size.

Perhaps I'll make my next pair out of this loverly red sock yarn - a vacation-to-Pennsylvania souvenir:

Now I don't have my cold anymore, Youngest Daughter has collected it.

And that means I have to clean her bathroom, too. Darn. There was never a happier day (okay, maybe there are a few) than when I didn't have to clean the teenaged daughters' bathroom anymore.

Since we last met, I've been working on a new pair of Twilight Socks from 2-at-a-time-socks. I've been using this:

A skein of Pagewood Farm Yukon Sock Yarn in Prism. Very soft and pretty!

I also had a great trip out to Darn. Knit (Anyway) in Stillwater, MN.

I didn't get the Madelinetosh DK yarn I went out there for but I did get some

Dream in Color Classy in the "In Vino Veritas" colorway. I've jumped the queue and started another project with it: Knitting Pure & Simple's Neck Down Wrap Cardigan. It's been lovely so far!

And since I helped Youngest Daughter clean her closet really, really well last week - 

Seven Saturday shirts went over to Saint John the Evangelist Episcopal Church's Huge Sale.

Knitter: Salvation - or Yarn: Overload

Okay, can you tell I've been watching a lot of summer blockbuster movies? But it's true about how it never rains but it pours.

Yesterday, I got not one but two packages of yarn in the mail!

First of all, the Fiber Fix saved my bacon big time in that I found a skein of Pagewood Farm Yukon sock yarn in Bird of Paradise on their site on Saturday, placed an order and it arrived yesterday.



A very good match. I plan on ripping back to the start of the final lace border and knitting again using the new skein. The rest of the skein - I'm thinking socks for me (since the shawl isn't for me) or some fingerless gloves.

In the very same post came a package from Scout's Swag! My sock club skein came! I have the last one earmarked for a baby surprise jacket but this one might make a pair of socks for me.



I'm backed up on the projects and Older Sister just asked if I've remade her 1824 Cotton sweater yet. No, not yet!

Oh, and one more thing. Some people (who already have entirely too much yarn! You know who you are, Guinifer!), wanted to know where I got my Spud & Chloe yarn. I bought it up in White Bear Lake at the Sheepy Yarn Shoppe. I think they are getting ready for a big Spud & Chloe yarn opening later this month but they had it there and were happy to sell it to me last week!

I'm not a big fan of knitting with cotton but I'm liking the Spud & Chloe so far. No photos because it's just a lot of garter stitch right now but I'll post something when it gets interesting.

Right - now, off to do something with all that yarn!

Saturday - what can I say?

I haven't even picked up my needles today.

Laundry, cleaning, trips to the compost and brush sites - it's all eaten the day away.

After posting this, I may weed some more. Or I may take a nap. Stay tuned!

I realized that I never put up a photo of my Pagewood Farms Hand-dyed sock yarn in the Bird of Paradise colorway. I didn't even put it up on my Ravelry stash page. Spread out into a shawl, the yarn is much lighter than this picture would indicate. Still lovely, though!




I think I was trying to pretend I didn't buy it at Wolf Creek Yarns this past Christmas vacation. If I don't put up photos, it didn't happen.

My Saturday Seven also appeared out of the blue.



I was simply trying to pull out my spring clothes from my "under the bed" storage and three pairs of sweatpants, two heavy knit nightgowns, 1/2 of a set of pajamas and a light-up pen from Carnegie-Mellon University jumped into the Give-a-way Box.

Time to go avoid doing any more work for at least 1/2 hour.

Home from the hunt!

Well, the family trip to Pennsylvania is finally over - lots of miles covered, relatives visited, weddings completed and a trip to the Mercer County Race Park. Oh, and two lovely yarn shops!



My husband used the search feature on his phone and found Cornerstone Yarns in Richfield, Ohio. Their brand new website helped me find it and the owner kindly sold me some beautifully dyed spinning fiber and some Opal sock yarn. I'll write this one down on the road atlas. A friend of mine lists all the Dairy Queens along her route so at least my stops are calorie free.



We had a quick stop in Western Pennsylvania to tour Grove City College, where Youngest Child made a friend.

Other stops included races at the Mercer Raceway Park to see our favorite car - 711.

While in Grove City, I stopped by Wolf Creek Yarns (website-less right now!) where I scored a copy of the Elizabeth Zimmerman's Baby Surprise Jacket with Meg Swanson DVD as well as some lovely Pagewood Farms Yukon sock yarn. I've already started a baby surprise jacket and watched the video!



I also used all that travel time to finish my "Simple yet effective shawl" for the Wrapped in Care project. But I'll still have plenty of work to do on the Baby Surprise jacket and my old friend, the blue Go With the Flow socks as well as finishing up Youngest Child's patchwork quilt and training for my last Tri of the summer. August already, who would have thunk it?
